TV Tokyo affiliate to launch NFT marketplace specializing in anime
TV Tokyo Media Net, a member of Japanese broadcaster TV Tokyo Group, is launching an NFT marketplace specializing in anime this month in collaboration with digital marketing firm Cloud Circus.
The new platform “fancity” will handle NFTs of still images of scenes from TV anime and illustrations of characters. It will support credit card payment and users can buy NFTs corresponding to a single cut of their favorite works without crypto assets or wallets.
TV Tokyo Media Net will be responsible for acquiring content and planning NFT content, while Cloud Circus will operate and develop Fancity.
According to TV Tokyo Media Net’s statement on September 30, the two companies have plans to open “fanroom (tentative name),” which will link the marketplace with any location on the individual’s metaverse to show their NFTs and provide exclusive benefits to NFT holders. They are also planning to add new functions to deepen the connection between fans and anime works.
Beside TV Tokyo Group, another Japanese broadcaster, TV Asahi has also entered the NFT business. In October 2021, its subsidiary TV Asahi Mediaplex announced a collaboration with crypto exchange Coincheck. In November, TV Asahi converted some of its programs and content into NFTs and sold them on the NFT marketplace “NFT Studio.” In March this year, it launched “epio,” an information website on NFT and other new technologies.
