Four groups to operate cashless payment, digital local currency at Expo 2025 Osaka
Four financial institutions will form a consortium to provide cashless payment and digital local currency service during World Expo 2025 to be held in Osaka.
SBI Group, SMBC Group, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and Resona Group have been selected to provide these services at the Osaka Expo venue, Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition, which coordinates the event, announced on September 12.
Expo 2025 will be held in Osaka and take place between April and October in 2025.
Organizers aim to make the Osaka Expo more attractive and create a comfortable venue for all visitors with the new services.
Earlier, proposals were invited for goods and services providers, and the groups were selected after individual discussions with 13 business units that made applications.
The four selected financial institution groups will form a consortium to manage the project.
