Digital Garage launches incubation program for Web3 start-ups

Japan-based internet business support company Digital Garage has launched a global incubation program “onlab web3” to support start-ups in the Web3 industry.

The program will provide mentoring, as well as support in financing and working space, for both overseas start-ups and Japanese start-ups aspiring to expand their business overseas.

Mentors will include Joichi Ito, director of Digital Garage, Yat Siu, co-founder of Hong Kong blockchain company Animoca Brands, artist Sputniko! and Offline Ventures founder James Higa. In addition to mentoring, participants will be able to join Digital Garage’s global Web 3.0 community and access to co-working spaces.

Applications are opened for interested companies from September 8 to October 3.

The project followed Digital Garage’s Onlab (Open Network Lab) program which began in Japan in 2010. So far, it has supported more than 150 start-ups, including listed companies and unicorns.

In implementing onlab web3, Ito said: “The social transformation brought about by ‘Web3,’

which allows anyone to join and freely build communities in a decentralized world, has the potential to become the infrastructure for democracy and capitalism in the future. The future of Web3 is a future of social meaning.”

The project is open to individuals and corporations with a track record of involvement in the Web 3 area and aspiring to build their business further in the future.
