TAG Heuer’s new function lets wearers show off NFTs on smartwatches
Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer has created a new feature that allows owners to show off their NFT collection on its Connected Calibre E4 smartwatch.
NFTs will be synced to the Calibre E4 via a digital wallet such as MetaMask or Ledger on a paired smartphone. The digital collectibles will be shown in a hexagonal pattern on the watch’s face, according to an announcement by TAG Heuer on June 15.
The watch face can simultaneously display time and user-selected NFT artworks in three unique ways. It also includes a conceptual design with a triangle and a circle representing hours and minutes.
Users can select which NFTs they want to display on their watch. The images can be resized to fit on the screen.
The new feature is compatible with both the 45 mm and 42 mm TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E4 models. The watch face’s contrast ratio has been designed to ensure that the screen is clearly visible even under strong sunlight while NFT colours are faithfully reproduced.
In developing the new feature, TAG Heuer said it had consulted NFT communities such as the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection and CLONE-X, in which contemporary artist Takashi Murakami participates.
In April, Italian luxury brand Bulgari launched the Octo Finissimo Ultra, the world’s thinnest watch. The model was limited to 10 pieces only and was sold with an exclusive NFT artwork that guarantees the authenticity of the watch and links to its owner.
In May, bespoke watch brand Undone also launched an NFT collection in collaboration with the NFT platform Madworld and the popular character Popeye.
