Toei Animation to bring its IPs to The Sandbox

Toei Animation will create experiences using its IPs on the virtual land inside The Sandbox, a popular virtual gaming world owned by Hong Kong blockchain company Animoca Brands.

A pioneer of Japanese animation, Toei Animation has produced some of Japan’s largest and world-leading animation productions, including “DRAGON BALL,” “SAILORMOON,” and “ONE PIECE.”

The company said in a February 16 statement that it will team up with Minto, a Web3 company which operates the popular blockchain game “CryptoCrystal” and has expertise in NFT development of its own characters on The Sandbox, to create the new experiences on the platform.

The Sandbox said it will continue pushing forward with partnerships with Japanese animation production IP brands, and deliver Toei Animation’s world view through experiences on its LAND.

Toei Animation managing director Satoshi Shinohara described metaverse as a new ocean that has emerged in recent years, and said the company is ready to set sail. “We are very happy and proud to be working with The Sandbox and Minto as our partners. I am confident that the ‘fleet’ we have assembled will be able to discover new continents and new routes that will guide the entertainment industry for years to come,” Shinohara said.

A campaign has been launched to commemorate the partnership by distributing The Sandbox’s limited edition NFTs to the first 1,000 users who register.
