Former US president Donald Trump releases first NFT collection
Former U.S. president Donald Trump has launched a collection of NFTs depicting him in various guises.
The Trump Digital Trading Cards feature the images of the former president in various fantasy roles and costumes, including a superhero, cowboy, astronaut and others. A total of 45,000 tokens are issued on the Polygon blockchain and of them, 44,000 will go up for sale on the NFT marketplace Collect Trump Cards.
The cards would have different rarities, and each card, priced at US$99, is issued up to only 20 pieces. It can be purchased with either Etheruem or in fiat currency, according to an announcement on Truth Social, the social media site Trump founded last year.
This is the first time Trump has launched an NFT series. It came after Trump announced his third bid for the White House last month. He triggered speculation earlier when saying on his social media platform on December 14 that he would “make a major announcement.”
The project initially drew criticism against the former president who had previously expressed negative views on crypto assets. In 2019, he once said he was “not a fan of cryptocurrency.”
Proceeds from the sale would not be put towards Trump’s presidential campaign, according to the website for the NFT project.
