Thailand launches NFT program to offer tourist benefits

Thai officials have launched the “Amazing Thailand NFTs” program that will reward visitors with discounts for collecting tokens from some of the country’s most popular tourist attractions.
The program, launched by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, runs from November 14 to December 14.
To participate, tourists can download the YAKS app available for Android and iOS platforms, and then can scan a QR code at the kiosks available at five major tourist attractions – China Town, Wat Arun, Giant Swing, and Siam Square all in Bangkok, and the Ancient City in Samut Prakan – to get a random Amazing Thailand NFT item.
The tokens are designed under the key message of “Travel to Earn, Earn your experiences” with artwork integrated into the corresponding location, the authority said. There are 3,999 items at each location.
Each person can collect one NFT item per location, and each token comes with different offers. After collecting three items from three locations, they can unlock privileges for air fare discounts, hotel discounts, food and beverage discounts, and other travel offers, the officials said.
In addition, tourists can get a welcome Amazing Thailand NFT item upon arrival at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport. There are also 3,999 items at the TAT Information Counter located on the second floor, Gate 3.
Yuthasak Supasorn, the authority’s governor, said the NFT program is part of a drive to create a new tourism ecosystem towards a more sustainable industry.
In 2021, Thailand banned NFT trades citing digital asset-related fraud and speculative activities. NFT issuance is allowed, however.
